The Ohio Genealogical Society has opened up registration for its 2019 Conference in Mason, Ohio this coming May.
This is my second year attending and speaking at this excellent jam-packed conference. I invite you to join me there.
The Conference
The Conference takes place Wednesday, May 1, 2019 – Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Great Wolf Lodge Convention Center in Mason, Ohio.
The theme for the conference is Building a Heritage, featuring over ninety sessions on topics such as military, technology, DNA, ethnicity, methodology, records, problem-solving, and Ohio. The keynote speaker for the conference is David E. Rencher from FamilySearch.

I am giving two traditional one-hour lectures, as well as teaching a two-hour workshop that will allow us to go more in-depth with those particular collections.
Workshop
(W07) Strategies for Finding & Analyzing Mexican Church & Civil Registrations
Mexican civil and church registration records are often called the richest genealogy records in the world. We will review various strategies to find and analyze these collections. Tools and tips will be demonstrated for translating and interpreting old Spanish handwriting and terms, and identifying Mexican place names. Even a non-Spanish speaker can be successful at this research.

This overview explains key U.S. records for identifying immigrant origins, major Mexican record collections, naming conventions and name search strategies, and reference tools.
